Pattern Discovery in Biology

Abstract
in this talk, I will discuss the application of pattern
discovery techniques to biology. Specifically, I will discuss methods
we developed/are developing in identifying interesting patterns
in biological sequences and gene expression data.
Dr. Gao is currently a lecturer at Harvard Medical School. He obtained
his M.S. and PH.D. degree in computer science from the University
of Memphis in 2001. He got his B.S. degree from Beijing University
in 1992 and received a Master's degree at the University of Tennessee
in 1995. He did his postdoc work with professor George Church at
Harvard. Before moving to
Harvard, he worked at the computational biology center at IBM T.J.Watson
Research Center for four years and was an visiting
assistant professor at
the department of mathematical sciences at the University
of Memphis for
one year.
